JCA to provide funding for Super League teams

Report by RJRGLEANER Communications Group Sports Reporter Jordan Forte

With the inaugural Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) Super League set to get underway this weekend, questions are being asked as to how the league will be financed in light of the lack of corporate sponsorship.

The players won't be paid by the JCA but Cricket Operations Manager Oneil Cruickshank says the association has ensured that the franchises can cover their expenses by giving each franchise $2 million as operational expenditure.

The competition was to have been made up of players who performed well during the Senior Cup competition, but players from Kensington and St Thomas Cricket Clubs were still considered despite their teams not taking part.

Cruickshank said the JCA did not want to continue denying players from those teams the opportunity to play competitive cricket.
