Losing start for J’cans at Youth Olympics
The Jamaican team has started their inaugural Youth Olympic Games campaign in Singapore on a losing note.
Dennis Coke and Kendese Nangle bowed into action on Sunday but failed to make progress in the badminton and swimming respectively.
Coke lost his two opening matches in Pool C of the boys’ badminton competition.
He was first beaten 2-0 by Phet-Phanom Keophiachan of Lao before suffering a similar loss to india’s Prannoy Haseena of India.
Coke will play his final group match against Lucas Claerbout of France on Monday.
In swimming, Nangle returned a time of 1minute:06.43 seconds for fifth in heat two of the girls 100 metre backstroke event and failed advance to the semi-finals.
She will be in action again on Wednesday in the 50 metre backstroke.
Elsewhere, Trinidad and Tobago were beaten 3-1 by Equatorial Guinea in Group B of the girls’ football competition.
