Moncriffe heads Team Jamaica for season eight of Contender Series

2013 champion Devon ‘Concrete’ Moncriffe will head Jamaica's eight member team against their Canadian counterparts in this season's eighth staging of the Wray & Nephew Contender Series. The 41 year old Moncriffe will be seeking to join Sakima Mullings as the only boxers to win two Contender Series titles when the new season gets going in three weeks.


Moncriffe, who has been to one other final, two semi-finals and two quarter-finals will join the number one seed Richard ‘Frog’ Holmes, who has lost two straight finals including the 2016 decider to the world-rated Demarcus ‘Chop Chop’ Corley. Michael ‘Wasp’ Gardener who now based in Panama, is the Jamaican third seed, while Ramel ‘Sub Zero’ Lewis is ranked at number 4.


The other members of the Jamaican  team are Toriano Nicholas, Nico Yeyo, Fabian Tucker and Seantonie Johnson, who will be making his professional debut. The Canadian team will be headed by Ricardo Salas, who has a ring record of 7 wins and a loss. Mayron Zeferino with 5 wins and a draw, is ranked number two; Jeff Tabrizi the most experienced of squad with 10 wins and 2 defeats, is ranked at number three, while the exciting Dave Leblonde is the number 4 seed.

Holmes will meet debutant Lloyd Reyes in the opening fight in the welterweight contest on April 4 at the Chinese Benevolent Association Headquarters. The winner of this year's Wray and Nephew Contender Series will pocket JA$2 million.
