No date as yet for overdue JABA AGM and elections

No date has been set for the long overdue Jamaica Basketball Association elections despite a specially convened meeting of the association members on Sunday.

It was hoped that a presentation of up to date financial statements at the meeting would have resulted in a new date being set for the elections.

The JABA AGM and elections were postponed in April and again in May, after demands by the delegates for up to date financial statements were not met.

Calvin Martin, deputy chairman of an interim steering committee set up to administer the running of local basketball, says the committee will continue in its role, confirming no new election date has been fixed.

“No, a date has not been set," Martin conceeded. "The steering committee (is)the authority, (and will) continue and complete a number of activities”, he commented.

Martin also explains that the members were still dissatisfied with the financials which were presented at the meeting.

“The members felt that based on the information received from the auditors and the constitution sub committee, it would have been best to complete those first and then proceed and set a date after that, because we are having some problems with the audit”, Martin noted.

It's understood that financials for the past three years were not available because no AGM had been held over that period.

Mark Broomfield, Paulton Gordon and Desmond Reid are the three candidates vying to replace Ajani Williams as President of JABA.
