No date set for Francis' return from injury

No time frame has been set for reigning national 400 metres champion Javon Francis to return to action after the former Calabar standout had to withdraw from this week's National Senior Championships with a hamstring problem.

Francis who first showed signs of injury at the World Relays earlier this year, was hoping to compete at the national trials, for a spot on Jamaica's team to the London World Championships this summer.

However, according to assistant coach at Akan Track Club Y'nick Morrison they had to make a late decision to protect the athlete.

“We were looking good a few weeks ago and the reports were coming good and the times were coming on and based on the workouts in training, he was improving and we were hoping to hold on a little longer for him to recover. But a few days ago other stuff started to turn up and we had to make a decision for the athlete,” said Morrisson.

Francis, a 4x400m relay silver medallist from the Rio Olympics last year, would have contested the 400m at the National Senior Championships which begins on Thursday.
