Thompson completes sprint double at National Champs

Reigning double Olympic champion Elaine Thompson announced a return to top form after securing the sprint double with another world-leading run on Sunday's third and final day of the JAAA Supreme Ventures National Senior and Junior Athletics Championships at the National Stadium. Thompson who beat Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce in the women's 100 metres final on Friday, replicated the feat in the 200 metres, clocking a season's best 22.00 seconds ahead of Fraser Pryce 22.22 and Schilloine Calvert-Powell 22.92 seconds.

Olympic silver medallist Yohan Blake missed out on the men's double as he was beaten by Rasheed Dwyer in the 200 metres. Dwyer, the 2014 Commonwealth Games champion, took the event in 20.23 seconds ahead of Blake 20.27 seconds. Andre Ewers took the final automatic qualifying spot in 20.48 seconds. 

Shericka Jackson ran a personal best 49.78 seconds to win the women's 400 metres ahead of Anatacia Le-Roy 50.94 and 2018 national champion Stephenie-Ann McPherson 51.01 seconds. Demish Gaye secured his first national title in taking the men's equivalent in 44.83 seconds, ahead of Terry Thomas 45.47 and Javon Francis 45.60.

Commonwealth Games champion Ronald Levy won the men's 110 metres hurdles, clocking 13.23 ahead of Orlando Bennett with a personal beast 13.27 and Andrew Riley 13.33. In the field, Odayne Richards won the men's shot put with a throw of 19.93 metres with Ashinia Miller taking second with 19.25 meters. Commonwealth silver medallist Shanieka Ricketts retained the women’s triple jump title with a leap of 14.73 metres ahead of Commonwealth gold medalist Kimberly Williams 14.39 metres.
