Jamaica's Under-17 basketballers quickly bounced back from their opening match defeat to outscore Panama 56-54 in their second match of the Centro tournament in the Dominican Republic on Thursday.
The young Jamaicans jumped out to 10-7 first quarter lead but the Panamanians responded with a 13-12 second quarter run which narrowed Jamaica’s lead to 22-20 at half-time.
Showing more purpose in the second half, the Jamaicans had their best run of the match to take the third quarter 21-17 and despite another fight-back from the Panamanians in the fourth quarter, the Jamaicans held on for the 56-54 win. Jalen Menzies and Kareem Reid led them with 13 points each. They had lost the first match 61-69 to the US Virgin Islands. The young Jamaicans will play hosts Dominican Republic in their final group match on Friday.
