Missy Elliot to receive Essence's Black Women In Music honour

Missy Elliot is set to "work it" early next year when she receives Essence's Black Women In Music honour.
 
The iconic rapper/producer will receive the honour that Essence first began awarding back in 2010 to recognise the accomplishments of both emerging and established artists and influencers during Grammy week. 
 
Essence describes Elliot as a consummate visionary whose creativity knows no limits.
 
She is someone who has continuously pushed the boundaries in her work to shift the culture for the better across multiple industries including music, dance, fashion, film, television and art.
 
Elliott has won numerous Grammy awards over the years and has crafted plenty of hit songs since her debut back in 1997 including but not limited to Work It, Lose Control and Get Ur Freak On
 
She will join previous honourees of the prestigious award who include Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, Mary J. Blige and Kelly Rowland.
 
Missy Elliott will receive the honour on January 25 at the Highline Ballroom in New York City.
