Star Trek Beyond has topped the US box office chart after taking US$59.9 million on its opening weekend.
Last week's number one - The Secret Life of Pets - dropped to number two with takings of US$29.3 million.
Ghostbusters and Lights Out both took $21.6 million, causing a tie for third place.
Star Trek Beyond, which stars Chris Pine and Idris Elba, is the third film in the rebooted franchise.
