Parliament to focus on Bill to amend Banking Services Act

The House of Representatives will on Tuesday turn its attention to the controversial issue of service fees charged by commercial banks.

A Bill, seeking legislative changes which limit how they operate, is set for debate during Tuesday afternoon's sitting.

The Bill, which was introduced by Fitz Jackson, Member of Parliament for St. Catherine Southern, seeks to amend the Banking Services Act.

The proposed amendments were drafted after consultations with members of both sides of the House of Representatives, the banking industry and other stakeholders.

Last week, Mr. Jackson said he was optimistic that there will be strong support for the amendments and the elimination of certain banking fees.
