Students and staff at Grange Hill High School in Westmoreland will be engaged in counselling sessions on Monday to assist in dealing with the trauma from the violence in the community.
Principal Trevine Donaldson-Lawrence says the school is trying to cope with the shooting of two students on Thursday afternoon after they left a fun day event at the institution.
The police say 16-year-old Carson Barrett, who was killed, was the target of the attack.
A 15-year-old girl was wounded.
Her injuries are not considered life-threatening.
The teenagers were shot about 4:50 p.m. along the Belle Isle road by two men travelling on a motorcycle.
Mrs. Donaldson-Lawrence says students are being allowed to speak about the impact of the incident during online classes Friday.
She said the school has several initiatives with law enforcement and other organisations to give support to the students, but suggested intervention may also be needed in the community itself.
"We are doing what we can on our end, and we are getting the support. But I believe from the community end as well, you know, that is where we need to get some things going as well."
Investigators in Westmoreland say ongoing gang conflict between the King's Valley gang and the Ants Posse gang is behind Thursday's deadly attack on the two students of Grange Hill High.
Superintendent Othniel Dobson, Commanding Officer for the Westmoreland Police, said the security forces will be maintaining a presence in Grange Hill on Friday.
