Several fire units were dispatched to Red Stripe's Spanish Town Road facility in St. Andrew on Tuesday afternoon to battle a blaze at a section of the beverage plant.

Senior Superintendent for the Jamaica Fire Department in Kingston and St. Andrew, Patrick Gooden, told Radio Jamaica News that the fire started in an area where discarded cannisters were being stored.

"One unit from Trench Town responded and when they arrived on the scene they discovered that because of the magnitude of the fire, there is a need for further assistance so they called for an additional unit. Two units thereafter responded from York Park and they were able to contain and extinguish the fire," he said, adding that the damage was moderate, based on an initial assessment.

He said cooling down operations continue.

A statement from Red Stripe said there was no fatality or injury as a result of the incident.

Red Stripe said the company will be conducting a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
