Four men killed in confrontation with police in downtown Kingston

Four men were killed in a confrontation with the police in downtown, Kingston this morning.
 
Five firearms, including two M16 rifles were seized.
 
A police officer was shot and wounded.
 
Superintendent Beresford Williams, commanding officer for the Kingston Central police division, told Radio Jamaica News that sometime after 1,:00 a.m., the police were in the vicinity of Orange Street when they heard gunshots.
 
The police responded, "and subsequently men travelling in a ISIS motor car opened gunfire at them, resulting in a running gunbattle."
 
The pursuit continued until the gunmen's car crashed on King Street, in the vicinity of  Charles Street, at which point, he said men, "numbering about six" emerged from the wrecked vehicle, "opening gunfire at the police."
 
He said the police returned fire and "three men fell there, each with a firearm."
 
The police then searched the vehicle and found two M16 rifles, he added.
 
Additional polilce teams joined their colleagues on the scene and from there followed a trail of blood, which led to the discovery of the body a fourth man, he said. 
 
It was during that search, he explained, that a fifth suspect shot at the police, resulting in one of the lawmen being wounded.
 
"His condition is not considered serious, at this time," Superintendent Williams said.
