Road fatalities climb to 136

The National Road Safety Council is reporting that road fatalities are on the rise in 2024.
 
The latest data show that 136 people have died in road crashes so far this year compared with 138 road deaths recorded over the similar period last year.
 
Twenty-six road fatalities have been recorded in April.
 
The latest deadly crash occured in Hanover on Wednesday night.
 
It's reported that a motorist was driving his Toyota Voxy motor vehicle along the Orange Bay main road, sometime after 10 o'clock, when he crashed into a disabled motor truck.
 
The driver sustained severe injuries and was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
 
A pedestrian also died on Tuesday when he walked into the path of a Nissan motor vehicle along the Prospect main road in Portland.
