Schools to be ranked based on NEI report, Education Minister says

Senator Ruel Reid

Education Minister Senator Ruel Reid has announced that the National Education Inspectorate (NEI) report will be the basis on which schools are ranked.

Senator Reid said the report will be used along with the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) results to rank secondary schools.

"We have to look at holistically how we are evaluating the performance of the system. In fact, the NEI will be coming shortly with what we call a Value Added Matrix, where we look at the starting points of students in relation to the school quality and type and see how schools are adding value to our students overall," he outlined.

The latest report on 189 schools is showing an overall improvement across eight indicators.

Schools such as Campion College, Kensington Primary, Southborough Primary, St. Andrew High, Wolmer's Boys' and Wolmer's Girls' schools have been rated as "exceptionally high", Minister Reid announced.

Schools rated as "good" are: Albion Primary, Angel's Primary, Belmont Academy, Dunrobin Primary, Glenmuir High, Holy Childhood High, Immaculate Conception High, Jonathan Grant High, Kingston College, Lyssons Primary, Morant Bay Primary, Port Maria Primary, Shirley Castle Primary, St. Francis Primary and Infant School, St. Hilda's High, St. Peter Claver Primary, St. Richard's Primary, The Cedar Grove Academy, Westwood High, and Windward Road Primary and Junior High.

The NEI assessed 147 primary and 42 secondary schools across six regions.
