The 14-year-old student of the Irwin High School in St. James, who is charged with the murder of 15-year-old Raniel Plummer, was offered bail when he appeared in court Thursday.

Raniel was attacked and stabbed in the chest at the school gate in view of other students.

Superintendent Eron Samuels, head of the St. James Police, told Radio Jamaica News that the 14-year-old student was charged on Wednesday.

As part of the student's bail condition he is to reside outside of the parish.

In the meantime, Superintendent Samuels said the police continue to offer support to Irwin High School and are increasing patrols as well as their community safety and safe school activities.

"We are urging students within the parish of St. James to please find different ways to set disputes, get involved in extracurricular activities such as our police youth clubs in schools and cadets and other activities. We want to see how best we can maintain the safe school environment for students within the St. James division," he pleaded.
