Water level at Hermitage Dam improves

Charles Buchanan, NWC's Corporate Communications Manager

The water level is going back up at the Hermitage Dam in St. Andrew following this weekend's rains.

The level had fallen dangerously low as drought conditions persisted, with the National Water Commission (NWC) declaring the dam could run out of water in a matter of weeks.

However, following rains on the weekend, Charles Buchanan, NWC's Corporate Communications Manager, says things have improved.

"We had fallen to as low as 25 per cent just about 8-10 days ago. We have gradually been creeping in the reverse now coming back up. We're not yet over 50 per cent, which is what we desperately need the situation to improve to, but we're heading there," he said.

In the meantime, Mr. Buchanan notes that the heavy rains have affected some NWC systems, resulting in disruption to some customers.

He was speaking Monday on RJR's call-in programme, Hotline.
