The Westmoreland police have charged the woman who was taken into custody over a week ago following the death of her eight-year-old son in a fire at their home in Grange Hill.

The police say 29-year-old Sharone McDonald has been charged with cruelty to a child, based on a witness statement.

It was reported that on April 26, about 11:30 p.m., Ms. McDonald left her son, Jahmiel Richardson, unattended in their one bedroom house in Top Lincoln.

Residents reported that they saw the house on fire and heard Jahmiel calling out for his mother.

They rushed to his assistance, but the fire engulfed the house so quickly, they were unable to rescue him.

Jahmiel's remains were later found by firefighters.
