There were dramatic scenes on Lyndhurst Road in St. Andrew on Tuesday after fire broke out at a recycling facility.
The Jamaica Fire Brigade, which was alerted about the blaze at 11:24, is still trying to ascertain the cause.
The operator of the recycling facility is counting his losses.
Thick plumes of smoke from the recycling facility were visible from several sections of the Corporate Area.
Residents quickly rushed to the scene offering to help prior to the arrival of units from the Fire Brigade.
A fireman told RJR News that the response team was hampered by inadequate water, however private water carriers provided assistance in that regard.
Sections of the building caved in due to the fire.
"Certainly, it's a high concentration of combustible material. We saw plastic, we saw paper as well as other materials, which posed a challenge to the firefighters," said the fireman.
Firefighters and residents prevented the blaze from spreading to other properties.
A section of a house was damaged by the blaze.
