The Office of the Contractor General (OCG) has been called in to investigate the multi-million dollar contract granted to two attorneys who were former members of the Board of Factories Corporation of Jamaica (FCJ).
Zavia Mayne, a JLP aspirant in the upcoming election and Robert Ramsey filed a lawsuit against the FCJ, in December, challenging the decision of the current Board to request a refund of J$45 million from them
Mayne and Ramsey say they were paid $26 million in legal fees in 2011 after they were contracted to handle the transfer of 200 acres of land at Caymanas Estate from the Urban Development Corporation.
They have asked the High Court to rule that they should keep the money.
However, Factories Corporation says it wants a portion of the money returned with interest.
The corporation’s attorney, Linton Walters, says the matter is now before the OCG.
The Board of the Factories Corporation claimed it has not seen any Terms of Reference contracting the attorneys to act on behalf of the entity in the $900 million land transaction.
Mayne, who is slated to represent the JLP in St. Ann South Western has accused Walters and the Factories Corporation of conducting a political witch hunt.
However, Walters is insisting that Mayne and Ramsey return a portion of the money.
“Both attorneys need to refund a part of the money collected - my instructions are that this money represents fees for the completion of the matter ….” Walters said.
