St. Ann councillors call for JPS to install streetlights in several communities

Councillors at the St. Ann Municipal Corporation are calling for the Jamaica Public Service (JPS) to immediately install streetlights in communities in the parish and repair those that are malfunctioning.

Councillor for the Claremont Division Lambert Weir noted that since the Government has cleared its arrears with the JPS, the energy company should urgently address the issues affecting the various divisions.

"I have been lobbying for this for so many years to get new street lights to replace these black spot areas and up to now I am not getting any. Now the government has paid 7-point-odd billion dollars to clear all bills that was (sic) owed by the country... (so) I think that we should be getting better service," he argued.

Carlton Ricketts, Councillor for the Dry Harbour Division, said he has also been receiving complaints from residents about malfunctioning streetlights and is worried that the lack of lights could encourage the works of unscrupulous people.
