It's 'Wasp' versus 'Sub Zero' in Contender Series quarter-final

Voices of Michael 'Wasp' Gardener and Ramel 'Sub Zero' Lewis

22 year old Michael ‘Wasp’ Gardener is embracing the favorite’s tag as he enters Wednesday night's Wray and Nephew Contender Series quarter-final against Ramel ‘Sub Zero’ Lewis at the Chinese Benevolent headquarters.

Gardener who weighed in at the 147 pound limit on Wednesday morning, has been touted as a possible winner of the competition after an impressive debut where he stopped American Jose Guzman.

He’s expressing confidence in his ability to deliver. “There’s nothing to worry about. It’s mental competition with high expectations so you just have to live up to it,” said Gardener.

Gardener is however not the only confident one. His opponent, 28 year old ‘Sub Zero’ Lewis who reached the 2012 final also believes he has what it takes to move on to the semi-finals.

“Well definitely I’m not worried. I just have to go out there and do what the coaches have said so I have more than one coach working (with me). I’m a seasoned boxer, he (Gardener) is the one who should be worried, I’m good,” said Lewis.

Live coverage of Wednesday night’s contest will be on TVJ starting at 9:30 pm.
