Some members in the next batch of trainee apprentices for the Jamaica Racing Commission's Jockeys' School are bemoaning what they describe as the excessive fee to enter the programme.
The total cost for the two terms has been set at $500,000, while April 12 was the deadline for the initial down-payment of $250,000.
Prominent trainer Richard Azan is also calling on the JRC to offer more assistance. The cost for the 2018 batch of apprentices to enter the Jockeys' School was $350,000, while for the 2019 group it was $435,000.
In the meantime, the deadline for the first down-payment has been extended by another week, while classes are now scheduled to get underway sometime in the first week of May.
